Kelly Fischer, M.A.T., is a New Jersey certified English teacher and college guidance counselor with extensive experience teaching writing and navigating the college admissions process.

College essays differ from the academic essays students write most frequently in the classroom, and the college application process can feel overwhelming. Personal statements must be authentic, creative, and make clear how the student will be an asset to the prospective college.

With over 20 years of experience as a college and high school writing instructor, I engage students to help identify creative, meaningful essay topics and advise them through the writing process.
 
I carefully evaluate the student's academic and personal background to craft an individualized plan. I ease the stress of beginning the essay through questions that reveal student values and identify meaningful themes. Each session is goal-oriented and I employ activities and assignments to help the student progress quickly.

I also work with students to curate balanced and appropriate lists of colleges for application. Selecting colleges to which students are most likely to gain acceptance requires a comprehensive evaluation of the student as well as considerable research regarding specific college admissions practices and data sets. 

Additionally, I have experience identifying colleges most likely to offer merit scholarships. Students must be very selective about the colleges to which they apply if they intend to receive financial assistance not based on need. If easing the financial burden of college is important and the student will not qualify for significant need-based financial aid, I work with the student to curate a list of schools most likely to offer merit aid. College loans are burdensome and there are many schools willing to offer students merit aid; this requires extensive experience, research, and data analysis.
